Welcome to Kindergarten school

Kindergarten is a German term meaning “garden for children”. Intended to prepare children to move from home to school, seen as an early education approach. We Jesus School provides a positive, stimulating introduction to classroom education in a separate block with an International infrastructure and modern amenities. We follow the Montessori methodology of teaching in our kindergarten. The Montessori Method of Education, developed by Italian physician Maria Montessori, is a child-centred educational approach based on scientific observations of children. Children learn the Montessori philosophy of order, independence, concentration and coordination, gradually moving from the concrete to the abstract. It involves activities such as playing, singing, drawing and social interaction as part of the transition from home to school. Children begin each day by exploring a new thing. We emphasise development of nascent skills in areas such as Languages – English, Tamil & Hindi, Math, Science, and co curricular activities. Students also participate in physical education, sensorial development, EPL – Exercise in practical life and games. Our Kindergarten program gives each child a framework that helps ensure continued academic success with courage and smartness.

Pre-KG

A child’s first step in Jesus School begins from Pre-KG. Pre-kindergarten (Pre-KG) is a classroom based preschool program for children from the age of Three years. (should have crossed 3 years as on 30th May)

Here in the Pre-KG classroom, children learn first to adapt to a new environment away from home. They begin to socialise with new friends and people. We make them settle down within a week’s time. As they get adapted, they are taught to know their environment and the facilities they would be using like the rest room, dining hall, play area and activity hall. They are also trained to follow the basic rules, good habits and manners.F

Their educational journey starts with learning languages English and Tamil, Math and EVS – Environmental science which incorporates both science and social. Their daily study plan is based on a well designed curriculum. Their timetable is a mixture of learning, playing, singing and dancing with lots of fun.

The little hands begin to scribble, which is carefully taught to write letters. They are taught to recognize letters and numbers. Teachers teach them Rhymes and stories, which they are taught to recite back. They learn through fun filled activities using lots of Montessori kits.

Our Pre-kindergartens are cared for by equally focusing on building their social development, physical development, emotional development, and cognitive development.

Jr. KG

Junior Kindergarten is the second step our children take after completing Pre-KG. Here in Junior KG, as the children are more accustomed to the school, they are taught to work independently with teacher’s monitoring. Children learn the Montessori philosophy of order, independence, concentration and coordination, gradually moving from the concrete to the abstract.

Teachers focus on developing their basic skills like Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. They are taught to identify and write the alphabets of both the languages. We use phonics to teach the sounds of the alphabet, which help our children to pronounce the words with good slang.

Maths and EVS are taught with smart class videos and Montessori kits. Early learning also takes advantage of the developing brain and stimulates the development of neural connections, which explains the higher achievement rates in areas such as Math and EVS. Children are made to do all the writing in the classroom with the help of the teachers and books sent to the parents on weekends.

Sr. KG

Senior Kindergarten is the next step after completing Jr-KG. By the time they enter Sr.KG, our children become very smart, courageous and intelligent. Here in Sr.KG, all the alphabets in both Tamil and English are well taught and understood by the children. By the end of the year, they would be able to read simple sentences.

In addition, they are introduced to a new language – Hindi, which is our national language. Younger children can learn a third language easier because they are not as dependent on the first. In Math, children are taught the numbers up to 100 and number names too. Many concepts and facts are taught in EVS. Their knowledge is slowly and meticulously built each day.

Their personality and smartness is also taken care of. Children are made to listen to useful English conversation videos and stories to improve their fluent English. Apart from the regular learning process, children are trained to improve various skills through various programs like Sensorial to develop motor skills, EPL – Exercise in Practical life, Sand games, JumpBunch, Swimming, Dancing, Cycling and free play in Swing and Slide.

The journey in Kindergarten ends with KG – Graduation day and children are taken to the main block primary school and made to sit in G I. Before the graduation day, Parents are asked to visit the school and go through their child’s performances. Children answer the questions in front of their parents.

By doing this, we are proud to tell each parent that we have built your child’s foundation safely and strongly. Our Kindergarten program gives each child a framework that helps ensure continued academic success in grades one through four and beyond.

Welcome to Junior School (I – V)

Letters are put together to make words, Words are put together to make sentences. Here in our Primary school program, sentences are framed together to make a beautiful paragraph. Primary education is typically the first stage of formal education, coming after Kindergarten and before Middle school. Primary education is meant to educate the kids with the basics of education. Primary education begins from Grade I to Grade V after completing Kindergarten. In Jesus School, Primary School children become more mature and self dependent. They started eating by themselves; they knew to use the restroom and actively participate in all activities and games. Primary school children get their first opportunities to meet and understand people from different religions, races and socio economic statuses, as well as people with different disabilities. Students are taught basic lifetime skills like reading, writing, spelling, interpersonal communication and concentration.

Our primary school students also learn good study habits including:

  • Time management
  • Multi-tasking and organisation
  • Short and long-term planning
  • Test/Exam Preparation

The main subjects on which our primary education teachers focus in the classroom are the three languages – English, Tamil, Hindi; Math and EVS – Science and Social. In addition, children also learn Computer, GK and Physical education. We reinforce basic maths and reading skills. This leads to reading fluency and comprehension, which assists in logic and problem-solving skills as the child matures. Basic number recognition as well as mathematical operations are emphasised for maths. This creates a solid foundation for the child to tackle more complex maths areas in higher classes. Children are trained to do art and craft work. They spend a day in a week in several activities like Karate, Yoga, Silambam, Western and Classical dance and Music Instruments. To keep our children healthy and physically fit, every evening, they play games like Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Swimming, Skating, Cycling and Athletics.

Grade I & II

Grade I & II stands as a threshold from Kindergarten to Primary and a transition period for all our children. So here we take at-most care and monitoring to make sure all our children are strong in the basic foundation skills.
In Grade 1, children are once again revised with all they learned in Kindergarten. Once they are clear with the basics, we prepare them to read, write and learn by themselves. Teachers make sure that the children are able to understand what they teach. They encourage students to interact with them and make them get interested in what they are learning.
We use the traditional method of teaching using white board, and then teaching is aided with Smart class videos and models or kits. Children are guided to do projects and activities based on the lesson taught. The same methods are been used in Grade II. Children in Grade II get more advanced in learning process. We are keen in making all our children 100% perfect in reading and writing both English and Tamil.
By the time our children complete their Grade II, they are trained well enough to take care of their day to day affairs both at home and school. They have been taught all good manners to behave wherever they move around.

Grade III, IV & V

Our Grade III, IV & V primary children are very vibrant and energetic. They give spirit and energy to the entire school. We take more care in making our children follow discipline and respect others.
Teaching and Learning process gets more interesting in these classes. Students’ understanding skills are far more sharpened and they start to ask lots of questions to the teachers. Though we have the same subjects and methods in these classes, teaching and learning is done in a deeper and broader way. A strict follow up is done to make sure all students are engaged in active participation of learning.
Students are made to work as a team. The group interaction helps children to develop a sense of respect for others, learn the difference between right and wrong, how to play with cooperation, the importance of sharing, solving disputes, following instructions, and voice their opinions.
In these classes, children not only take care of themselves but also their class. Students are deputed as ministers to take care of the classroom. It gives them a sense of responsibility and care towards others.
We realise that the primary school years of a child’s academic life are crucial ones in establishing positive attitudes and dispositions toward learning. We value a young child’s natural desire to learn through creation and self-expression. We strive to build upon our students’ curiosity, while instilling in them a spirit of cooperation, a respect for others and for their ideas, and a satisfaction in personal intellectual growth.

Welcome to Middle School (VI – VIII)

A middle school also known as intermediate school is an educational stage providing education between primary school and secondary school. The Middle School program is designed to carry out Jesus School’s mission by teaching young children in grades VI – VIII to acquire knowledge and skills through conversation, discovery, and deep understanding. We strive to inspire, in each student, a love of learning, self knowledge, and meaningful community members. During the middle grades years, students experience rapid growth intellectually, emotionally, and physically and gradually take ownership of the learning process, build relationships, and come to appreciate their own individuality as they prepare to take on the challenges of secondary school. Although the Middle School’s academic program is rigorous, our great expectations are fully aligned with the developmental capacities of our young students and fully supported by the close work and passion of our highly trained and experienced faculty. English, Tamil, Hindi, Math, Science and Social are the main subjects which are taught in the Middle school program. In addition Children are taught Computer, GK, Physical education, Art & Craft, library hours to enhance reading skill and Lab hours to give them a practical taste of what they are learning.
Because Grades VI – VIII represent a special period in the life of a child, the members of our faculty are not only discipline area specialists, but relationship specialists and adults who have dedicated their professional lives to working with our pre- and young adolescent children. While teachers work to know students well enough to challenge them to their fullest intellectual potential, our balanced approach allows significant time for training the body and spirit as much as the mind.

Welcome to Secondary School (IX & X)

The key objective of the Secondary school program in Jesus school is to teach children from Grades IX & X – to live a disciplined life, to love family and friends, to feel positive and courage, to learn harder with good understanding, to think analytically, and to be smarter and excellent. Secondary school program is the stage of education following the Middle school program. It acts as a link between Middle and Senior Secondary. Secondary school programs take place when young kids are in their adolescence therefore it is responsible for the growth and development of young children. The age of 14 to 18 years is the time when the emotional, physical and mental developments of children are at a good pace. Students in Secondary School celebrate the responsibility of keen inquiry. The atmosphere is wonderfully academic, vibrant with insight. We do not ask students to simply take a formula or a procedure and regurgitate it in different contexts. We encourage them to wrestle with underlying concepts and see how complex ideas function. Their curiosity spans classrooms, stages, laboratories, and playing fields. They learn English, Tamil/Hindi, Math, Science and Social and prepare themselves well to take the board exam in G X. Through small class sizes and close relationships among teachers, students, and their families, we forge a potent collaboration. We emphasise partnership to nurture the capacity to respect ourselves and each other as independent, engaged, and virtuous citizens who recognize the essential interdependence of all members of the community, from neighbourhood and city to nation, hemisphere, and world.

Eligibility for Secondary and Senior Secondary School

CBSE requires students to take five subjects which are externally assessed in Year XII, plus some internally assessed subjects (general studies, work experience and physical and health education). Students must pass each subject to gain their full qualification. CBSE requires students to take and pass examination in five subjects: two languages (to include English or Hindi) plus three electives from: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science. CBSE uses a relative scale with nine positional grades in each subject, which are based on the performance of ALL the candidates who passed the exam in that subject in a given year. Positional grades are given with marks of 0 – 100, but are based on a comparative curve rather than on absolute grade ranges. Therefore, the CBSE positional grades are a good indication of the quality of the student in relation to his or her peers in that particular year. The minimum pass for CBSE subjects is 33%. All students that pass are given a grade based on their rank order A –1, A –2, B –1, B –2, C –1, C –2, D –1, D –2, with A –1 representing the top eighth of candidates and D –2 representing the bottom eighth of those who pass. E indicates a failed candidate. Opportunities abound to explore, strengthen, and cultivate numerous interests and peer relationships.

We encourage students to take risks and learn from their mistakes. You’ll see our motto—Live to Learn and Learn to Live—woven throughout the days and months as hard work and moral distinction inform critical thinking, compassion for one another, and engaged citizenship. Our habit of instilling brave curiosity and diligent effort has enabled Jesus School to thrive as one of the best continuously operating academic institutions.
